Randomised controlled trial of a new relief inhaler in mild asthma: the RELIEF trial

What is the study about?

Assessing a new relief inhaler for mild Asthma; the overall aim is to determine the clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and acceptability, of replacing SABA inhalers with inhalers containing ICS/formoterol in patients with asthma treated with low dose ICS maintenance treatment. 

Who can take part in the study?

Patients aged 18 and over with a clinical diagnosis of mild asthma.

What is being tested in the study?

A new relief inhaler.

What is this being compared to?

Replacing SABA inhalers with inhalers containing ICS/formoterol in patients with asthma treated with low dose ICS maintenance.

What are we trying to find out?

The time to the first asthma attack which is bad enough for the patient to have steroid tablets for at least 3 days.

How many patients do we need?

2300
